Bay leaf - Tej Patta
Bay leaf is an Indian spice as well as an Ayurvedic medicine. Bay leaves are one of the most versatile spice which is used in cuisines of entire world & all types of food from starters to desserts. Two to three leaves are sufficient to enhance the flavor of your stocks, poaching liquor, soups, sauces, roasts, bakes, stews, curries, pulao, biryani, milk & custard.
  • It vitalizes the digestive juices, which help in digestion of food.
  • Bay leaf lessens the sludge that accumulates in the body when food is not digested properly or we don’t detoxify regularly.
  • It reduces gas formation, flatulence, abdominal pain, indigestion, and diarrhea.
  • It also helps in treatment of common cold & asthma.
  • Helpful in reducing high cholesterol & triglycerides levels.
Coriander seeds -Dhaniya
Coriander seed powder & coriander leaves are used in almost all the Non-vegetarian as well as vegetarian preparations. Coriander is used extensively in Mexican, Middle Eastern & African cuisines.
  • Coriander seeds are effective in reducing heat sensation, heartburn & acidity.
  • Its tea has a cooling effect on the body, which helps in reducing excess heat.
  • It is highly beneficial for lowering the frequency & intensity of night sweats & hot flashes. It happens by soaking coriander seeds overnight in hot water. In the morning, strain out the seeds & separate the coriander water. Drink this water on empty stomach in the morning.
Fennel - Saunf
Fennel seeds are commonly used as mouth freshener & digestive after meals in India. Fennel is an essential ingredient in panch phoran & most of the pickles. It is used to enhance aroma of soups, stews, sauces, marinades, meats & vegetables.
  • Boosts Immunity.
  • Consumption of fennel increases the production of red blood cells, treats anemia & keeps infections away.
  • Chewing fennel seeds reduces pain in most menstruating females.
  • Fennel protects the liver against injury caused by chemicals. Antioxidants present in fennel remove toxins that can cause damage to the function & structure of the liver.
  • It improves digestion, reduces gas formation & gives relief from stomach discomfort.
Asfoetida - Heeng 
Heeng is an Indian spice used for flavoring the food & in herbal medicines for the treatment of digestive & mental ailment. However, flavoring food is not the main objective of heeng spice.
The main objective using it is to prevent digestive problems like gas, flatulence, bloating & abdominal disorders.
  • Heeng is a good home remedy for irritable bowel syndrome. It reduces abdominal cramps & pain due to its antispasmodic property.
  • It is highly beneficial in people having symptom of mucus in the stool. Always temper your lentils with Heeng.
  • NOTE: Expecting mothers & lactating mothers should avoid Heeng.
Nigella seeds - Kalonji
Roasted Nigella seeds used as flavoring curries, dals, vegetables, pickles & some fried Indian snacks.
Nigella seeds act as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory & anti-diabetic. It is also known for its action on the stomach.
  • It improves appetite & acts as a digestive & carminative agent.
  • Kalonji mainly benefits in fat disorders like obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides & low breast milk supply. In these cases, you can chew ½ teaspoon of Kalonji seeds just before meals.
Saffron - Kesar
saffron is a very powerful spice , two or three strands are enough to flavour a whole pot. Since ages Ayurveda uses this exotic spice for various illnesses. Due to its orange colour ,it is sometime called as "The Sunshine Spice".
  • It has potential to ward off depression.
  • Its high anti-oxidant properties can help remove free radicals present in the body, which are known to cause cancer.
  • Saffron enhances virility, particularly in people who are taking anti-depressants medicines.
  • It can be added to milk or warm water, or used as a paste for skin problems, headaches, fever or faster healing of injuries.
Black Pepper-Kali Mirch
In ancient times black pepper was more valuable than gold. A person’s riches were measured by the quantity of black pepper he owned, still so humble in nature & doesn’t require much space in our diets to impart its benefits. Pro Tip: Keep pepper mill handy & crush some pepper over your soup, broth, sauce, stew, casserole, pasta, egg, salads, meats list is endless & enjoy the difference in an otherwise boring dish.
  • Its medicinal value makes it an important ingredient in Ayurveda as well as western medicines.
  • Black pepper promotes the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which is important for digestion.
  • Black pepper eliminates toxin from the body by increasing the frequency of urination & sweating.
  • It helps fight depression & improves memory.
  • Sprinkle some freshly crushed pepper over soup or salad to get relief from upset stomach, instead of taking a pill.
